Watching TV shows and movies with your friends or partner is a commitment to be taken seriously.
It doesn't matter if it’s the “Love is Blind” reunion or an episode or three of "True Detective;" viewing alone can be a big no-no.
Don't risk the consequences that may come with watching the show solo, instead, use one of these methods to watch the content together, even when you can't be in the same place.
iOS devices have a feature called SharePlay, and Amazon Prime has something called Watch Party that makes it easier to stream content together without the need for two people to hit play simultaneously.
Free browser extensions, like Teleparty, can also help bridge any streaming service gap you might encounter in your quest for shared content consumption.
Watch this video to see how easy it is to watch content with someone wherever you are.
Apple SharePlay
SharePlay is probably the easiest option to stream content together if both or all parties use Apple devices.
To SharePlay in a FaceTime call:
- Start your FaceTime call. This can be with one person or a group.
- Tap Share.
- Find the app and content you want to share.
- Hit play.
- Enjoy.
This will prompt the other person or persons to join. It does require everyone to have the streaming app and a login to access content.
If someone pauses, rewinds, or fast-forwards the video, the video changes for everyone watching. However, adjusting the volume or turning on captions will only affect your device.
There are some restrictions when it comes to the content you can SharePlay. Not all streaming platforms or apps support the feature, while some may require a subscription. There are also additional restrictions if you're sharing content with someone in a different country.
Amazon Prime Watch Party
Amazon Prime subscribers can host or join a Watch Party directly through the streaming service.
To stream Prime content together:
- Find the content you want to watch on Amazon Prime.
- Tap the icon that looks like a megaphone with confetti coming out of it.
- Create the Watch Party.
- Share the link.
- Wait for people to join.
- Enjoy!
All parties involved must have a Prime membership, and not all content on the streaming platform may be available for sharing.
